What we do

Hanging, taping, and finishing — done right the first time.

Stone Creek Drywall handles the full scope from board delivery to final sanding. We work to GA-214 finish standards, coordinate cleanly with framers, electricians, and painters, and hit schedules that general contractors can build around.

Scope

Core services

Hanging

Accurate layout and board installation for walls, ceilings, and soffits — residential and commercial.

  • Standard 1/2" and 5/8" gypsum board
  • Moisture- and mold-resistant board
  • Type X and Type C fire-rated assemblies
  • Abuse-resistant and impact board

Taping & Mudding

Joint tape, corner bead, and compound applied in progressive coats with clean feathering and straight lines.

  • Paper and mesh joint tape
  • Metal, vinyl, and no-coat corner bead
  • Three-coat system over all joints, angles, and fasteners
  • Clean transitions at penetrations and outlets

Finishing

Sanding, pole-sanding, and final inspection under raking light to deliver the specified finish level cleanly.

  • Level 3, 4, or 5 finish to spec
  • Primer and skim coats where required
  • Inspection for print-through, tool marks, and crowns
  • Walk-through with client or GC before sign-off

Texture

Hand-applied and spray textures to match existing surfaces or deliver a specified new look.

  • Knockdown (most common Houston residential)
  • Orange peel (common commercial)
  • Smooth Level 5 (premium residential)
  • Skip-trowel and hand-trowel for custom work

Repair & Remediation

Patch, re-tape, and refinish work for water damage, settlement cracks, and remodel cut-ins.

  • Water- and insurance-claim repairs
  • Settlement and structural-movement cracking
  • Patch to invisible on existing textured surfaces
  • Lead- and asbestos-aware practices on older homes

Finish levels

GA-214 levels of gypsum board finish

The Gypsum Association's GA-214 standard defines six finish levels. Specifying the right one protects the paint contractor downstream and sets clear expectations with the owner.

L0

No finish required

Temporary construction, demo prep

Board installed; no taping or finishing.

L1

Tape only

Concealed areas above ceilings, plenum spaces

Joints and interior angles taped. Tool marks acceptable.

L2

Tape embedded + one coat

Garages, warehouses, storage, service areas

Tape set in compound; fasteners covered; ridges removed.

L3

Two coats

Heavy-texture surfaces before painting

Suitable where heavy texture conceals seams.

L4

Three coats

Standard residential — flat paint, light texture, wallcoverings

Most homes specify Level 4. Not recommended under gloss paint or critical lighting.

L5

Skim coat + three coats

Gloss or semi-gloss paint, critical raking light, high-end residential

Thin skim coat over entire surface; the only finish that hides substrate variation under glare.
